Unprotected metal surfaces take a beating if left unprotected outdoors. Airborne industrial chemicals are also known to pit all kinds of specialty finishes. Ultra violet light from the sun ultimately corrupts the integrity of any substrate and most finishes are not up to dealing with this constant assault.
Permalac outdoor clearcoat lacquer, on the other hand, can take on outdoor challenges to stainless steel, bronze, cast iron, brass, copper, nickel, aluminum, and zinc like no other protective lacquer available. The UV inhibitors, salt spray resistance, abrasion toughness and ability to withstand the harshest weather conditions are superior to every other competitive product on the market today.
The challenges of that face Permalac in Indoor applications may be as great as those faced outdoors. But they are different. For example, in commercial building lobbies Permalac is often used to protect surfaces that come in constant contact with human hands. Elevator railings and doors. Revolving entry doors, railings on ramps, staircases and many other fixtures have to handle the abrasiveness and acid content that are unavoidable when human touch is involved.
Other lacquers and finishes just don’t hold up. Or don’t hold up very long. Permalac has consistently demonstrated an ability to last 18 months between refinishings. And the part Building Maintenance professionals like the best: how easy it is to remove the old finish from interior surfaces and retreat them with Permalac. A simple acetone wipe down will take all surfaces down to bare metal or wood . Once the substrate is polished and cleaned. the first coat of new Permalac can be applied. Since Permalac cures to the touch in 30 to 60 minutes, it is soon ready for second or even third coats if so desired. This means the whole lobby can be treated overnight and is totally ready for employee traffic by starting time the next day.
If there are environmental concerns we recommend Permalac EF. This provides all the UV and abrasion resistance provided by Permalac but contains only 170 grams of VOCs per liter. This will comply with all current state and local regulations in the United States.

Permalac has been successfully used for finishing wood by manufacturers of office furniture as well as door and cabinet makers. Permalac provides a smooth, hard, durable finish which is easy to apply and fast to cure. In addition it has earned the approval of a number of furniture restoration craftsmen and antique dealers.
When spraying Perrnalac, its also important to thin it properly. This retards the dry time and prevents ‘hairs’ of resin from forming on the project surface. In moderate temperatures, the recommended mix is one part Peacock Labs #281 Thinner to 4 parts Permalac. On hot, dry days the Peacock labs #69 Thinner may be preferable.

Permalac does a great job of sealing any number of components under the hood. It is especially effective in filling in and smoothing over the micro-pores that are always found on the surface of aluminum and other metals. After coating a newly finished alternator with Permalac, for example, the clean polished look will last for months, even years. Without Permalac, the surface soon develops a light bloom corrosion. That’s because there’s no way to arrest the chemical reaction that always takes place in the imperfections of unprotected metal surfaces.

Permalac goes on smoothly and maintains a uniform thickness even on objects with considerable shape profile. One of the best things about Permalac is the way a second coat blends in perfectly with the first coat. The Permalac surface is also very hard so the finish doesn’t scratch easily and isn’t compromised by heat.

Permalac is used by sculptors, sign makers, siding manufacturers and other outdoor installers because it protects metal and other substrates from environmental degradation, physical abuse such as wind borne sand, UV and salt attack. Plus it doesn’t change the original appearance of a substrate in any way; many users report that installations look “as good as new” up to ten years after being coated with Permalac.

Triple C Electric Company of League City Texas had a problem. Until 3 years ago there was a persistent chance that molds could develop and grow on the circuit breakers boxes the company builds and installs. This was especially a problem in southern climates with high humidity.

Michael Carlton, the company president said he then discovered Permalac, an outdoor clearcoat lacquer. “The product was infallible. Permalac not only acts as a fungicide that resists mold, it positively repels it. Mold simply can’t and won’t grow on it.”

As a result Triple C now treats all circuit breakers before they are installed in a panel or enclosure with two coats of Permalac. Customers ordering circuit breaker boxes from 20 amps up to 1200 amps and 120 volts to 600 volts can count on Permalac Fungicide protection.

PERMALAC clear coat exterior lacquer has been welcomed aboard a number of challenging marine applications. The ability of this long lasting, super hard, impenetrable exterior finish coating to withstand the elements at sea — UV, salt spray, wind borne abrasives, etc. makes it a natural. Moreover, users experience consistently confirms PERMALAC’s reliability in all manner of extreme weather conditions.

PERMALAC has proven a breakthrough solution for a variety of architectural coatings. It has enabled designers, architects and interior decorators to experiment with patinas and other special finishes and stabilize them as never before.
